William Salmo

Salmo, William J. At home with the Lord on April 20, 2010, at age 58. Beloved father of Matthew (Laura) Salmo, Clare (John) Pennington, and Elizabeth Salmo; cherished grandfather of Julia Pennington; dear brother of Robert (Barbara) Salmo, Edward (Becky) Salmo, Thomas Salmo, Patricia (John) Metropoulos, James (Lisa) Salmo, Joseph (Laura) Salmo, Diane Salmo, Maria (Paul) Smith, and Linda (Darryl) Walters; dear uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Dorothy Salmo. Born in St. Louis, Bill graduated from St. Louis University and received a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of Missouri and a physician recruiter for many years. At age 31, Bill began his battle with a malignant brain tumor. He was an inspiration to all, whether family, friend, or someone he had just met, with the way he dealt with his illness. A beautiful soul, Bill was kind, patient, and gentle to all. He was a family man who loved his children dearly and taught them many life lessons, including how to persevere in the face of adversity. He was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed movies, music, family gatherings, and visiting friends. Bill will be deeply missed, but his family takes comfort in knowing he lived an exemplary life in the face of great challenge.
