Vincent U. Rapini Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 101 years on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Son of the late Serafino Rapini and the late Maria Rapini nee Riggio; beloved husband of the late Phyllis Ann Rapini nee Sutphin; devoted father of Vincent (the late Patricia) Rapini Jr., Ken (Nita) Rapini, Mel (Krista) Rapini and Maria (Richard) Revels nee Rapini; cherished grandfather of Jennifer, Vincent (Laura), Greg (Candace), Brian (Lindsay), Tim, Michael (Allie), Sam (Alicia), Katie, Alex and Angelina; loving great-grandfather of Vincent, Jack, Sophia, Evelyn, Ian, Ben, Henry, Emily, Molly, Beverly and Isaac; dear brother of the late Lena Contestabile, Catherine Bert and Anna Carson; dedicated uncle to the late Edmond, Clarence, Dahlia and the surviving Alex, Vincent and Marilyn.
Vincent was born in a time of great change; Vincent witnessed and embraced the many transformations of the world throughout his long and fulfilling life.
A proud World War II veteran, Vincent served his country with honor and bravery. His experiences during the war shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and resilience.
Vincent’s greatest love was his wife of 66 years. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and commitment. For 38 years, Vincent devotedly cared for his wife after she became paraplegic, demonstrating unparalleled dedication and compassion.
Music was Vincent’s lifelong passion. He played the French horn professionally and shared his love for music as a dedicated educator in the Saint Louis public schools. His influence on his students and the community was profound, leaving a lasting legacy of musical excellence.
A true family man, Vincent cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He adored his 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, creating countless memories through lunches, day trips, and sleepovers. His special bond with his nieces and nephews was a source of joy and connection for the entire family.
Vincent was also a lifelong active member of his church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and a sense of community. His faith and commitment to his church were cornerstones of his life.
Vincent’s life was a symphony of love, service, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
