It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dear Sister, Aunt, and Friend, Shirley Nichols, nee Jernigan. Shirley came to us on February 4, 1945. She was the 5th of 6 children from the late Stella Jernigan (nee Douglas) and the late Everett Jernigan. Dear sister of Wil (Mimi) Jernigan, Betty (John) Froidl, the late Marjorie Mueller, the late Imogene Jones, and the late Evelyn Morris; cherished aunt to nieces Stacey, JoAnna, Judy, Lauren, Denise, and Shelley, and nephews Russell, Rodney, and Bruce; blessed great-aunt to Johnny and many others; and friend to countless many.
Shirley was born with a loving disposition and a heart of gold. There was nothing that she couldn’t accomplish without the faith that her Momma instilled in her from a very young age and the value that was always placed on family. She loved playing her harmonica. Shirley was always encouraged to express herself whether it be at home, at church, or at the ball field. Shirley rarely left her place of residence without her ball glove. Shirley was an outstanding ball player, regardless of age, and threw with accurate precision and strength.
Our dearest Shirley always came with a bit of a challenge; a challenge we never backed down from. Her life wasn’t picturesque, but she never backed down. Shirley was a woman of great faith and loved everyone she came into contact with. She was a fighter and a force to be reckoned with, a force that we will all miss so very much. We will love Shirley until the end of time just as she has loved us.
