Ruth Deal

Ruth Earline Deal (nee Manns) of St. Louis, MO. Asleep in Jesus, on Saturday, Jan 31, 2015. Born on Feb. 5, 1921 in Poplar Bluff, MO, Ruth was preceded in Death by her husband, George W. Deal, Jr; parents Wm. Oscar & Grace E. Manns; great granddaughter, Gracie Hilkemeyer; sister, Lillian Collins; & brothers Paul, George, & William Manns. Mourning her are daughter, Marjorie A. Doerr and son, Kenneth L. Deal & wife, Linda, all of Elsah, IL. Also left behind are: granddaughters Paula (&Chuck) Sears (Barnhart), Suzanne (& Michael) Hilkemeyer (St. James), & Donna Dodge (& Todd Stueven) (St. Louis); grandson Aaron (& Ria) High (Granite City, IL); great-grandchildren Natalie & Emily Sears, Justin & Toby Hilkemeyer, Jessica (& Andrew) Buxton, Travis & Delany Dodge; Ellie High & Brennan Cochran; & great-great granddaughter Aubrie Pratt. Ruth grew up outside of Poplar Bluff, MO. Raised on a farm, her father was an accomplished man - a school teacher, farmer, lawyer, & politician. Her mother was a homemaker of high standards. Ruth was a devout Baptist, & embraced Our Lord Jesus. Ruth married George Deal on August 2, 1941. They moved to St Louis after his release from the Army during WW2. Many train trips were made to Poplar Bluff for family visits. Residents first of North St Louis City, then Richmond Heights, Ruth moved to Affton following the death of her husband. She worked as a secretary & also spent time volunteering on Sunday mornings at a local nursing home. As a senior citizen, Ruth lived many years at Heritage Place in St Ann, MO. She loved to drive & travel, having enjoyed many trips through the USA. She enjoyed playing her heirloom pump organ, baked the best meringue pies, & was known for her fudge making skills. Service: Visitation, Monday 5:00 pm until time of service 7:30 pm at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS South County, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd. St. Louis, MO (63129). Graveside service Tuesday, 1:00 pm at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. February 2, 2015
