It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger Eime, age 83, on September 21, 2024.
Born March 3, 1941, Roger lived a rich life with love, integrity and joy. He was a devoted husband, doting father, and adoring Papa to his four grandchildren. He was also a loyal friend who brought smiles and laughter to all who were blessed to know him.
Roger was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, having been baptized in the church where he developed amazing friendships through youth group, 20+ Club, and sports. He served in the United States Navy from 1962-1967. During that time, he married his childhood sweetheart, Donna. During his years of service, they lived in New Zealand where they made lifelong friends. Upon returning home, Roger worked at and later ran their family business, Eime Hardware, where he modeled the importance of honesty and a strong work ethic.
Roger was very social and actively involved on many fronts. His passion for sports was evident throughout his life as both a player and a fan. He attended or tuned into the Cardinals, St. Louis Rams, and Blues games regularly. He coordinated recreational sports leagues including the St. John’s men’s fast pitch softball league, Southside dartball league, and his long-standing football pool. He also organized the Lindbergh High School class of 1959 reunions. He loved oldies music, social events with friends, camping trips to Kentucky Lake, and time with his family. His zest for life, warm spirit, generous heart and propensity for shenanigans will be greatly missed by all.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Edgar Eime and Oleatha (nee Benack) Eime. He leaves behind his wife, Donna (nee Wartenbe) Eime; daughter Cheryl (nee Eime) Allison, Pete Allison, and grandchildren Emma and Ben Allison; his daughter Lisa (nee Eime) Rein, Joe Rein, and grandchildren Nathan and Kaylee Rein; his sister Bonnie Eime; treasured cousins and relatives and countless friends.
Funeral services will be held on October 5, 2024, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Mehlville at 11 am with a short visitation starting at 10 am. In honor of his wishes for a joyful remembrance, a visitation celebration that includes family, friends, food, and football will be held on October 6, 2024, in the St. John’s United Church of Christ gymnasium from 1 pm until 5 pm. In the spirit of Roger’s wishes, you are invited to wear a shirt or jersey from your favorite team or one you wore while playing sports with Roger.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ General Fund or fund of your choice, 11333 St. John’s Church Road, St. Louis, MO 63123. Additionally, the family would appreciate your favorite story or memory of Roger which can be emailed to rogereimememories@gmail.com.
