Richard Francis (“Dick”) Salamon, of St. Louis, MO, former resident of Erie, PA, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at the age of 84. Husband of Carmelita (nee Caserta); father of Mark Salamon of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Matthew (Ann), the late Joseph Kenneth Salamon, Ellen Farrell, Robert; grandfather of Faith, Joseph, Dominic, Jacob and Lucy; brother of Margaret Ann, the late Thomas Salamon, and the late William Salamon; brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Dick was born March 7, 1935 in Erie, PA. He was the top graduate in his class at St. Ann’s Elementary School. He graduated with honors from Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, PA in 1953, and was also inducted into the Cathedral Prep Basketball Hall of Fame. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a chaplain’s assistant during his service in the Pacific from 1954-1959. He later attended St. Louis University where he received undergraduate and master’s degrees. Dick worked as an educator at Forest Park Community College and served as Chairperson of the Theater and Communications Department for many years. Member of AFTRA and Actors’ Equity, he featured in local productions at the Barn Theater and the American Theater. He was devoted to his family, his faith, his church and many charitable causes and organizations.
Visitation at Seven Holy Founders Church, 6737 South Rock Hill Road, St. Louis MO on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Internment at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Dick and his family would be happiest if memorial donations were made to Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, Pennsylvania, 225 W 9th St, Erie, PA 16501, or to either Saint Louis University, 1 N Grand Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63103 or the St. Vincent DePaul chapter at Seven Holy Founders Parish, 6737 South Rock Hill Road, St. Louis, MO 63123.
