Richard Boll

October 25, 1926 — November 5, 2017

Richard J. Boll, age 91, a long-time insurance executive and broker in St. Louis, and a life-long St. Louis resident, died Sunday, November 5, 2017. Mr. Boll was born in south St. Louis to Walter and Ida (Roeckemann) Boll. He graduated from Cleveland High School in January 1945 and shortly thereafter entered the U. S. Army, serving with the 25th Infantry Division as a Military Policeman with occupation duty in Japan, leaving the Army in December 1946. Back in St. Louis, he earned a B. A. degree in business from Washington University in 1952. In 1954, he started a career in insurance beginning with American Surety and continuing with Transamerica Insurance Group where he served as their St. Louis branch manager for over 20 years until his retirement in 1985. Not one to remain still, he continued actively working as an insurance broker in the area with companies like Bland & Co. and HSHC, Inc., finally retiring in 2013 at the age of 86. Mr. Boll was active in the St. Louis Rotary Club 11 since 1962, and a member of the Missouri Athletic Club from 1962 until 2004. He was a member of the Missouri Post of the American Legion. His joys in life included hunting, fishing the streams and lakes of Missouri, and admiring the beauty of this state. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Mr. Boll married his wife Renate (nee Michel) in 1959. Together they had one son, Richard James II (Ann), who survives. In addition to his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Boll is survived by his sisters-in-law Virginia Boll, Erika (Henry) Mundt and Lieselotte Schriewer; his nieces and nephews John (Ellen) Boll, Patricia (Robert) Kistler, Linda (Robert) Neff, and David (Beth) Boll, Ewald (Susie) Kreikebohm, Rainer Kreikebohm, Jens Kreikebohm, Renate (Sean) Jones, Michael (Alisa) Mundt, Thomas (Heike) Schriewer, Stefan (Nicole) Schriewer, Torston (Weibke) Schriewer, alongside numerous grand-nephews and nieces; close family friends Alfred Dochnal Jr., Katherine (Chuck) Dochnal Palmer, and Eric (Nancy) Dochnal; alongside other relatives and longtime friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. Mr. Boll was preceded in death by his wife Renate; brothers Walter (Naomi) Boll, William Boll, and Edward Boll; sisters and brothers-in-law and their spouses: Ursula (Herman) Kreikebohm, Lisa (Ralph) Miller, Willi Schriewer; niece Rena Kreikebohm; and close family friends Alfred and Marion Dochnal. Following this service Richard will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
