Patricia A. “Pat” Cashman, nee Fiala, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 2, 2024. She lived with the effects of Multiple Sclerosis for most of her adult life, but she never let it stop her. She learned to make accommodations as necessary and lived independently at Nazareth Living Center until earlier this year. Her cherished long-time companion, Tom Mitchell, preceded her in death 10 years ago. She was a very private person but was kind and generous to her family and friends. We loved her very much and will always treasure our memories of her.
After graduating from High School, Pat worked for the Missouri Pacific railroad for several years before hiring on at the Federal Reserve Bank, where she worked in Accounting, Audit and Information Technology. Her MS forced her to end her career prematurely, initially going on disability and eventually retiring. She was a career professional, well respected by her co-workers; intelligent, and motivated to improve herself by earning her Master's degree while working full time. Even after going on disability, she worked to stay current on technology by taking adult education classes from the Community College as her health allowed. She stayed up to date with current events and enjoyed the challenge of watching the market and attempting to make the best investments at just the right time. She had numerous pets over the years, but her most recent cats, Miss Kitty and Brandy, were her most loved.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents Emil A. and Elsie Marie Fiala nee Hausen; her sister, Sister Christopher (Mary) Fiala; her brother and sister-in-law Emil E. and Joyce Fiala nee Eley; and her nephew Richard (Shirley Kirsch) Fiala.
She is survived by her nephew Greg (Susan) Fiala nee Lischer; three great-nephews: Isaac Fiala, Jacob Fiala and Benjamin (Tara) and their son Elliot Fiala; brother-in-law Steve Meifert; close family friends Sister Mary Beth Kemper and Sister Rosa Maria Ludena; and many other friends, colleagues and former coworkers. All of us are grateful for her presence and influence in our lives and will miss her very much.
