Nelda F. McMurtry, nee Walther, Asleep in Jesus on Wednesday February 12, 2025, at the stunning age of 100. Precious daughter of the late Ernest and Anna, nee Dreyer, Walther; beloved wife of the late Homer L. McMurtry; devoted mother of Don (Linda) McMurtry; cherished grandmother of Theresa McMurtry and Timothy McMurtry; treasured great-grandmother of Brianna Sprock, Joshua Sprock II, Jada Sprock, Carlina Hendrick, Caralynn Hendrick, Isabelle McMurtry, and Abigail McMurtry; blessed great-great-grandmother to one yet to be born; preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters; also survived by dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends
Nelda was born in early September to parents the late Ernest T. Walther and the late Anna M. Walther, nee Dreyer, in Pocahontas, Missouri. Throughout her long life, Nelda held a myriad of roles, from helping build a lasting legacy through her family to her employment with-- and retirement from-- National Supermarkets. She is remembered for her feisty personality, incredible memory, and the love she had for cooking for and taking care of her family. Nelda was a faithful and active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church Fenton, MO, where she found great love and comfort in the community, almost as great as her love for the Lord. In her free time, Nelda enjoyed quilting, sewing, and spending time in her garden, tending to both flowers and vegetables.
Nelda touched many lives throughout her long and fulfilling life, and while she will be missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her, we take comfort in knowing she is at home with her family and her Lord. May she rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Macular Degeneration Association or Our Savior Lutheran Church Fenton, MO (please specify that the donation is in Nelda's honor).
Nelda's visitation will be held on Tuesday February 18, 2025, at the church that she loved so much, Our Savior Lutheran Fenton, MO, from 10:00 until 11:30 funeral service. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park and Mausoleum, alongside her dear husband, the late Homer.
