Marvin Riney

December 15, 1927 — September 27, 2017

Marvin F. Riney passed away peacefully and surrounded by three generations of his family on Wed., Sept. 27, 2017 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Annette Riney (nee Shepard), dear father of John Riney, Joyce Peters, James (Sue), Judy (Gary) Julius and Janice Riney (fiance Gene), dear grandfather of Danielle (Eric) Kuhn, Kimberly, Tim, Sarah (Jason) Flier, Sean, Heather (fiance Chris) Riney, Robert (Lexi) Riney, Megan (fiance Dustin) Julius, Logan and Brian, great grandfather of 8. Dear brother of Lloyd (Gerry) Riney. Our dear brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle and friend to many. Marvin worked for Niehaus Interiors and was a proud member of the St. Louis Lathers/Carpenters Union, Foreman on record for Lambert International Airport and an accomplished metal lather. His projects included work on the Planetarium, chapels, department stores and hospitals throughout the St. Louis area. Powell Symphony Hall remained his favorite. At age 18, Marvin was an usher at Powell Hall (formerly the American Theater) when it was first a movie theater. He returned to Powell Hall years later to do the renovation which included installing the drop ceiling over the orchestra. To get the sound right, the ceiling had to be lowered an additional 10 feet, so Marvin returned again to do the work which made the sound even better and is enjoyed by all concert goers today. Marvin volunteered at the Eugene Field House and the Oakland House, where he also did extensive renovation work. Memorials in Marvin's memory would be appreciated to the St. Francis Mission, 201 Main St., Suite 310, Rapid City, South Dakota 57701, Bishop DuBourg Guild Players, 5850 Eichelberger St., St. Louis, MO 63109 or the Carpenters Union, 1401 Hampton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63139.
