Carroll, Lt. (Ret.) Roger F. fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. Born July 4, 1936 and died May 3, 2012. Roger joined the St. Louis Police Department December 1, 1958 and served in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th (Deer St.) and the old 12th districts and the Intelligent Unit. He received two Chief Commendations. Roger retired with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the IPA and the St. Louis Policeman's Veterans Association. Roger joined the St. Louis Policeman's Credit Union December 15, 1964. He was on the Credit Committee from 1974 to 1986, a Board Member from 1986 to 1992, Secretary/Treasurer from 1992 to 2004 and then he rejoined the board from 2004 to 2010, retiring due to illness. Roger took courses through the Credit Union League (Volunteer Achievement Program, a national education program designed for C. U. volunteers). Roger received the Friedrich Raiffeisen Award in 1988 after completing 18 VAP courses (at that time there were only 35 people in the state who had achieved that honor). Roger was a proud graduate of the most outstanding boy's high school in the metropolitan area, Christian Brothers College High School, Class of 1954. He attended many of the first Wednesday of the month important meetings with his fellow alums. Roger was inducted into the Christian Brothers College High School Hall of Fame in 2008. Immediately after graduation from CBC, Roger joined the 110th Bombardment Squadron. Roger was honorably discharged from the Air National Guard of Missouri and Reserves of the United States Air Force. He continued with his military service by joining the United States Army where he served in Korea. Roger received a Bachelors of Science in Urban Affairs from St. Louis University and a Masters Degree from Webster University. Roger was a member of Crestwood Council Knights of Columbus and he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Class of Father Kaiser. Roger was a member of St. Gabriel Parish for over 44 years, participant in the Holy Name Follies, kitchen commander for the Boy Scouts fish fry's and worked security for the parish picnics. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, William and Celestine Carroll (nee Joyce). He is beloved husband of Peggy Carroll (nee English); dearest father of Col. James P. Carroll (Carla Pisani), Maggie Kloeppel (Dave), and Bridget Carroll; Loving grandfather of Mamie, Anne Marie, Louie, Doc, and Ellen and best buddy of Brendan and Rory. Roger is survived by his six siblings: Michael Carroll (Sue Rafferty), Celestine Miller (the late Honorable Edward Miller, James Carroll (the late Molly Rock), Jean Noonan (Dr. Wm. Edward Noonan), Cornelius Carroll (Cathy Farrell), and Patrick Carroll. Roger died of PSP (Progressive Suparnuclear Palsy). "Duirt me leat go raibh me broite." Funeral Thursday from the funeral home at 9:30 am to St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church for Mass and eulogy beginning at 10:00 am Thursday. Interment J. B. National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials to CBC Class of 1954 Scholarship Fund are appreciated. (Envelopes will be at the funeral home).
