LOREN H, DAVIS Loren H. Davis, 84 of Granite City, born July 1, 1934 entered into rest Friday July 20, 2018 at his residence. Loren was a graduate of Granite City High School in 1952 and a graduate of St. Louis College of Mortuary Science and has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1958. He served in the United States Navy as a personnelman aboard the U.S.S. Maury AGS-16 from 1956 to 1958 and was honorably discharged from the naval reserves in 1962. Loren managed the Davis Funeral Home in Granite City from 1958 to 1964. From 1964 to 1967 he was assistant to the general manager of ARO-Dressel Foods, Inc, and in 1966 was selected by the Granite City Junior Chamber of Commerce as their "young man of the year". From 1967 to 1985, Loren was Vice President of Dairy Queen Enterprises, Inc, St. Louis, MO which was the franchisor of Dairy Queen Stores in 29 counties in Missouri and Illinois and operated several other restaurants in the St. Louis area. Loren retained his interest in the family funeral business and in 1985 when his uncle Leonard R. Davis died, he and his wife Carol assumed operations of the Davis Funeral Home in Granite City which they operated until January, 2018. Over his lifetime, Loren has been active in many organizations. He was a member and an elder of the First United Presbyterian Church; member and past president of the Rotary Club of Granite City and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Club International, Masonic Lodge #835, Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois, Ainad Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters, Court No. 86, De Molay Legion of Honor; Eagles Aeire #1126; and Amvets Post #204. He was a director Emeritus and past chairman of the board of Guardian Savings Bank; a director and past president of Coordinated Youth & Family Services; a former director of the Foundation of Southwestern Illinois College and former director of the Chamber of Commerce and former chairman of "Wings" Campaign to benefit Koch Center at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and a former member of B.P.O.E. #1063, Elks. He served as a member of the City of Granite City Planning and Zoning Commission and in 1996 was appointed to the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners, Granite City and was currently serving as chairman, member of the Zoning Board of Appeals of Madison County and served as a deputy coroner in Madison County for 38 years. He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Davis (nee Davis) whom he married in 1962. daughter Megan J. (Jim) Travis, Bridgeton, Missouri, grandchildren Hannah and Evan Travis and a sister Nancy Hamm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First United Presbyterian Church, Coordinated Youth & Human Services or Heartland Hospice. Visitation Tuesday July 24, 2018 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00 noon at The First United Presbyterian Church, 2160 Delmar Avenue, Granite City with the Reverends Mark Maynard & Jennifer Warren Hauser.
