Kathleen Max

February 26, 1945 — June 4, 2019

Kathleen "Honey" Max, 74, returned to her heavenly home on June 4, 2019. Our beloved wife and mother passed peacefully in her sleep. Kathy was born to Gordon and Margaret (Seim) Oppelt, a chemist with the Coca-Cola Company and a homemaker respectively, in Saint Louis, MO on February 26, 1945. For most of her life Kathy was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She spent several years working in the kitchens for the Mehlville School District and shared the same dedication and care. Kathy was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her best friend, William (Bill) Milton Max, on June 26,1965 in Affton, MO. Honey raised four children along with her loving husband with patience, discipline, faith, and humility. She was a talented seamstress, making clothing for her children and relatives. Sewing everything from wedding gowns, prom dresses and baptismal gowns for her daughters, grandchildren. Her chocolate chip cookies were a treat everyone looked forward to. She had pride in and cared for a beautiful flower garden and yard. She loved "the lake" and took any opportunity to spend time there, no matter the time of year or the weather. From the very beginning, she dedicated her life, marriage, and children to God and encouraged them to live in His glory. Honey was the heart of our family. She was the glue that held us together. She was kind and faithful, she always had time for her family. "Maw-maw" was always willing to babysit one of her many grandchildren or great-grandchildren, alter an item of clothing, make a quilt for a new baby, or help anyone in any way possible. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Kathy is survived by her husband, Bill; her children Billy (Laura S.) Max, Lisa (Louie) Delk, Patty (Rob) Emmons, and Brian (Lauren W.) Max; her grandchildren Allie, Heather, Emily, Louie Jr., Laurel, Lily, Hannah, Taylor, Harrison, and Evelyn. Her great-grandchildren; Will, Sophia, Juliette, and Levi; her brothers Gordon Oppelt, Bobby Oppelt, David Oppelt, and Jerry Oppelt; her sisters Cookie (Mary) Wheeler, Rita McCrady, Patty Cook, and Diane Harashe; as well as in-laws and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; Gordon and Margaret Oppelt and her sweet great-granddaughter Quinn Marie Grochowski.
