Joseph Thomas "Tom" Wilson

Joseph Thomas "Tom" Wilson Sr. entered into rest on Friday August 23, 2024, at the age of 80. Survived by beloved wife Rose Marie Wilson, nee Doolittle; devoted son Joseph Thomas "Joe" Wilson Jr.; cherished siblings Floyd (Wilma) Wilson, William (Lynn) Wilson, Nancy (Jeff) Fink, Phillip (Patty) Wilson, and preceded in death by James Walter (Lucy) Wilson Jr. Tom is also survived by many other dear relatives and friends. 

Joseph, known to his family and friends as Tom, was born at the end of Spring 1943 to parents the late James Walter Sr. and the late Paula Elda, nee Bender, Wilson, in St. Louis. Tom would graduate from Roosevelt High School before serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Tom worked for Kmart over 40 years, knowledgeable in many of the store’s various aspects and duties. 

Tom was known to many in his family and community for his kindness, love, and dedication. He wore his heart on his sleeve, especially when it came to his family. Tom also shared his gifts of time and knowledge with the local Boy Scouts as a leader, guiding many young men, including his own son. Pinewood derby races and Tom’s involvement in the anticipation of the event remain a cherished memory for his family to this day. 

Tom is also remembered for his love of country music, pb&j sandwiches, and sweets, especially ice cream. Tom was lucky to visit the Grand Ole Opry in his younger days, a memory of him that his siblings hold dear to their hearts. Tom was also, as many St. Louisans, a fan of Blues Hockey and Cardinals Baseball. 

Joseph Thomas Sr. touched many people throughout his long life and blessed each of them with many memories and wonderful stories. He will be greatly missed. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to PVA, Paralyzed Veterans of America in Tom’s honor. 

A visitation for Tom will be held on Friday August 30, 2024, at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South City Chapel 7027 Gravois Ave. St. Louis, MO 63116 from 10:00 a.m. until his funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery following his service at the funeral home.
