Joseph “Joe” Elias Abs entered into rest on the second day of October 2023 at the age of 68.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Elias Abs and Frances Rose Marie (Sawaya) Abs.
Joe is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carolyn Abs, his children, Kevin Beaty, Michael (Taylor) Abs, and Claire Abs and his siblings David Abs, Floreida Abs, and Janette Abs.
Always the numbers guy, Joe worked in the accounting field for 35 years, diligently maintained his CPA status post-retirement, and served as a trusted financial advisor for family and friends alike. He was a passionate amateur astronomer and astrophotographer and was an oft sought after cosmic tour guide for family, friends, and neighbors with whom he would gladly share his telescope and his knowledge. Joe loved to serve as photo documentarian for every trip and special occasion was known for his catch-phrase ‘Just one more (picture).” He was an adventurous traveler, happy to share experiences across the US as well as in Asia, Europe, and South America with his wife and children. He was a champion grill master known for his “Joe Burger” cooked exclusively over charcoal. Joe was also a certified goofball and could light up a room with a single facial expression. He was an unwaveringly loyal and loving husband and father. Above everything, Joe was known for his endless warmth and generosity of spirit. He will be dearly missed.
Donations to the American Cancer Society, the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Joe’s memory would be appreciated.
