Weber, John Ralph, asleep in Jesus on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at age 79. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria Richie Weber; 4 children Julie Weber, Betty Vitela, Ruth Weber (Tom Wilson) and John Weber Jr. (Cami); 6 grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Marisa, Mariana, Mary, and Sally. Dear brother-in-law of George (Linda) Richie and Roger Richie. Dear uncle, cousin, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Charlotte Louise Weber and his brother, Fred Weber. John was born October 11, 1931. He was a life long member of the Lutheran Church. He graduated from Lutheran High School Central in 1949 and served two years in the US Army in Germany. He returned to St. Louis to marry Gloria Richie. John joined his father and brother in the family business, Fred Weber, Inc., and worked his way to president and chairman of the board of Fred Weber, Inc. During his tenure as president, Fred Weber Inc became the first company in Missouri to recycle asphalt. John was particularly proud of the company's road building of Interstate 44 from Kingshighway to past St. Clair, MO. The baseball field at Maryville University, donated by Fred Weber, Inc. is named Weber Field. John was a long time active member of the St. Louis Variety Club and served as St. Louis President, an International Vice President and was a recipient of Variety's Life Time Achievement Award. He started the St. Louis Variety Club Bikes for Kids program. John served as a board member as well as president of the Cardinal Glennon Medical Center Board of Governors. He was a board member of the Missouri State Park Board, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, Colonial Bank Board, Lutheran Family & Children's Service (Chairman of the very first LFCS Auction), Normandy Osteopathic Hospital Board, Boy Scout Council of St. Louis, and the Teamsters Health and Welfare Board. John received an honorary doctoral degree from U.M.S.L. in 1986. Services : Visitation Monday from 3 - 9 PM at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS (South County), 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd. (63129). Visitation Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 14088 Clayton Road (63017) from 10:00 am until the time of funeral service at 11:00 am Tuesday. Interment Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Louis Variety Club Bikes for Kids, Cardinal Glennon Hospital or charity of your choice are appreciated.
