Pfau, John III on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at age 71. Beloved husband for 45 years of LaDonna Pfau. Dear father of Aaron (Lea), Darren (Beth), and Jeremy "JJ" (Jamie) Pfau. Dear grandfather of Anna, Julia, Jenna, Julia, Seth and Chase Pfau. Dear brother of Mary Ann (Don) Jordan. Dear uncle of 18. John was raised in south Saint Louis and went to Dubourg and O'Fallon High Schools. He joined the Navy in 1965 and served aboard the USS Dale (DLG-19), a Leahy Class cruiser, where he worked in the ship's engine room. His ship participated in operations in Vietnam and rescued several American pilots in the Gulf of Tonkin. John received medals for Vietnam service and campaign. John was a gifted cabinet maker and respected for his specialization in circular woodwork. Known as a "Shaper Hand", he built large and elaborate circular wooden structures for windows, doors, and cabinetry in office buildings, bars, restaurants, hospitals, and churches. He was a perfectionist at his craft and known for his unique and creative methods of solving problems. His co-workers nicknamed him the "Gadget Man" for his large assortment of hand built jigs and tools. John was well known for his sense of humor. Among family and friends, John was always goofing around and playing various pranks. John loved watching television and his favorite shows were classic westerns. John loved fixing things around the house and always lent a hand to anyone who asked him for help. Masses to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or memorials to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri or the Humane Society are appreciated. Services: Visitation Monday, January 4, 2016, at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS, 7027 Gravois (63116) from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm leaving to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm Monday.
