Joan Pavlovic

Pavlovic, Eleanor Joan (nee Donaldson) Joan was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 4th, 1924 to Walter and Eleanor (nee Sellers). She left Ohio at the age of 20 and entered the United States Navy. She was a veteran of WW II where she served proudly as a metalsmith, Seaman First Class from August, 1944 until April, 1946. She received an Honorable Discharge. While in the Navy, she was one of the few WAVES who went through special training to learn how to work on airplanes. She was then stationed in Norfolk, VA. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Gateway WAVES #5 and a lifetime member of the Service Women's American Legion Post 404. She always stated that she loved her time in the Navy and was most grateful to have served. She made the Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC on September 9, 2009. The highlight of the trip was getting her picture taken with Senator Bob Dole. She passed away at Missouri Veterans Home in St. Louis on Wednesday, February 13th, 2019. She was married to Steven Pavlovic in Kentucky on November 20th, 1947. They originally met when they were in the Navy. They were married 58 years when Steve passed away in May, 2005. They have two children, Patrick Pavlovic and Millie Levy (James). They also have four grandchildren, Susan Cervantes-Pritchett (Union, MO), Sandra White (Bradford, RI) Richard B. Eaton (Washington, MO), Steven Eaton (MA). Great grandchildren include JC Cervantes II, Katrina and Gaige Pritchett (Union, MO), Michael and the late Daniel White (Bradford, RI), Dakota and Matthew Pierce (Bradford, RI) Brady and Katelyn Eaton (Washington, MO) and Cheyanne Eaton (MA). Joan moved to St. Louis after her marriage to Steve, went to school at night and graduated from Harris Stowe College receiving her bachelors of Art degree in July, 1967. She taught in the Mehlville school district until July 1, 1986 and also worked as a librarian at the Tesson Ferry Library branch of St. Louis. Joan was one of the original founding members of her church, First Church of Christ Scientist of Concord Village. She was very active until 2010. She also belonged to the National Council of State Garden Clubs and the Petunia Garden Club of Lemay and received several honors and First Place ribbons for her flowers, which she loved. In her spare time, she loved to draw with color pencils and crafts. She also had a great love of cats. In lieu flowers, donations may be made to DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) or to Missouri Veterans Home on Lewis and Clark Blvd., ST. Louis, MO in her honor. Visitation will be Friday, February 22, 2019 from 9:00-10:00 am at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons location on 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63129. Service will follow from 10:00 - 10:30 am. Military service will follow at 11:00 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. February 22, 2019
