Joan Katherine Theis Gagnepain

Gagnepain, Joan Katherine (nee Theis) of Sunset Hills, Missouri, was born July 29, 1941, in St. Louis Missouri to Richard and Willma (nee Schmidt) Theis, and entered into heaven singing with Jesus Saturday November 23, 2024, in Sunset Hills Missouri, at the age 83.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Wilma Theis and Stepfather George Iggens; and her stepbrothers, George John Iggens III and Anton John Iggens.

She is survived by her husband Ronald Blaise Gagnepain of sixty years and her two children Eric Christian Gagnepain (Shannon) of Nixa-Ozark MO and Thuy (twee) Renee Chantal Elizabeth Gagnepain Smith (David) of Webster Groves, MO; her three grandchildren Abby Grace Gagnepain, Sarah Marie Gagnepain and Cameron Jordan “Cj” Smith; her sister Joyce (Edward) Messerly of Springfield, MO.

Joan was a beloved wife, mother, doting grandmother and sister. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and dedication to her family and the music community.

After graduating from Bayless High School in 1959 Joan received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Fontbonne College in 1963. Joan, a proud member of Phi Kappa during her years at Fontbonne, loved the friendships and community campus involvement. Joan went on to pursue her master’s degree in music/education from Washington University in 1965 then pursued her PHD from Washington University.

A lifelong educator Joan taught High School, Parochial school and College level music throughout St. Louis. For over thirty years her love of music extended through choral directing and coaching many vocalists.

Joan loved gardening, singing in local music groups, tending her rose garden, and being an active member in her Mary Mother Church Community. Joan will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
