Jean Pisoni

November 28, 1927 — April 11, 2020

Jean Ethel Pisoni (nee Hafertepe), age 92, of St. Louis, MO; fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, passed away on April 11, 2020.  She was born on November 28, 1927 and her birthday frequently fell on Thanksgiving.  She was the middle of three daughters born to Milton Frederick and Florence Anna (nee Wilbert) Hafertepe.  She was married to her beloved husband, Charles John Pisoni, from 1953 until his death in 1965.  They had two sons, Michael Charles (Joan) Pisoni and John Milton (Mary) Pisoni who were their pride and joy.  She was a dear grandmother to Melissa (Mark) Hall, John C Pisoni, and Kimberly Pisoni, and dear GG to David and Joshua Hall.

Jean Ethel Hafertepe had a deep love for her family.  The Hafertepe girls were doted upon by their many childless aunts and uncles, and Jean’s sisters, Dolores (Lori) Edna Strinni and Lois Mae Wolff, were her best friends.  Prior to Lori’s death in 1997, the two were inseparable.  As young women, Lori and Jean used to drive to the military base so they could dance with the soldiers.  As adults, the three sisters got together for nearly every holiday, and had memorable trips with their families to Eagle Hurst Ranch.  Jean met her sweetheart, Charlie, at a bar, but ironically not the Driftwood Lounge that his parents owned.  Her dear mother-in-law, Josie Pisoni, was a first-generation Italian American and an excellent cook, but was stumped as to what to feed German-heritage Jean when Charlie brought her over for dinner the first time.  Her attempt at bratwurst was appreciated, but she soon learned that her future daughter-in-law would be content with her traditional cooking.  Charlie and Jean were married at the courthouse with Lori and Charlie’s brother, Robert Pisoni, in attendance.

Jean was known as the traveling, gambling granny.  After retiring as a Government Clerk, she toured the world on cruises and bus trips with her sisters and friends.  Jean loved the casino and went twice a month to play the slots.  She was a social butterfly, avid Cardinals fan, and penguin and music box collector.  She was a tell-it-how-she-sees-it lady, and nobody ever had to wonder what she thought about anything.  She lived alone in her home until her death.

She rarely missed a family event and will be dearly missed by her extended family.  She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please have Masses offered for Jean.
