COONEY, JAMES A. Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Born December 3, 1931. Beloved husband of Agnes Cooney (nee Restoff) for 60 years, dearest father of Deborah (Frank) Mullen, Daniel (deceased), Donald, and David Cooney. Cherished grandfather of Melissa (Zach) Mason and Amy Mullen. Proud great grandpa of Hayden Mason. Jim was a proud Irishman and life long resident of Dogtown. Veteran of the Korean War and retired from Teamsters Local 600. He was employed by Hartlage Truck Service for 30 years. Jim was an avid fisherman and golfer. When he retired at age 62, he played golf every day as long was there wasn't snow on the ground. Jim won many medals playing golf in the Senior Olympics. He was most proud of his Hole in One on the Forest Park Dwight D. Eisenhower 9 Hole Course, #4 Hole, on March 3, 2000. Fan of St. Louis Blues hockey and St. Louis Cardinals. He was a soccer enthusiast and was a former soccer coach and CYC referee. Jim and Agnes enjoyed traveling. Over the years, they visited Canada, Mexico and Europe. Jim enjoyed boating and fishing at Table Rock Lake and Lake of the Ozarks with his family. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events. Jim was a long time member of St. James the Greater Church and served as an usher for many years. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret (Mohrmann) Cooney, brother Thomas Cooney (surviving Joyce Cooney), sisters Mary Hunicke, Loretta Pinion (surviving Modesto Pinion), and Patricia Nogel. Dear brother, brother in law, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Services from JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS FUNERAL HOMES 7027 Gravois on Thursday 8:15am to St. James the Greater Catholic Church (Tamm at Wade) for 9:00am mass. Interment: Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery Memorials to St. James the Greater Church would be appreciated. VISITATION: Wednesday 4-8PM
