Jack Richard Strosnider, Sr. passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 17, 2020 at the age of 95. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and devoted friend. Jack was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Alcor in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an alumnus of McKinley High School as well as a graduate of Washington University. He was also a Past Master of Pomegranate Lodge #95.
Jack loved life and celebrated it every day. He was a vibrant man with many interests. Two activities that were particularly important to him were in his role in the St. Louis Parkinson’s Disease Community and his support of Jefferson Barracks. Jack volunteered as a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, was the longtime facilitator of the South St. Louis Parkinson Support Group and was a regular participant in the South St. Louis Parkinson Exercise Group. His volunteer work at Jefferson Barracks included service as a director of the Friends of Jefferson Barracks, acting as a museum docent at the Jefferson Barracks Powder Magazine and serving as a Jefferson Barracks Trail Watcher. Jack’s extensive volunteer efforts improved and enriched the lives of many people. He was known for his calling card which stated, “Good for One Hug” and for always signaling “two thumbs up.” Jack will be greatly missed, but he leaves behind a multitude of wonderful memories.
Jack is survived by his two children: Kathleen (Jim) Sanders and Jack (Lynn) Strosnider, Jr.; grandchildren: Ted (Megan) and Don (Sara) Sanders and Mike (Carol) Strosnider. Great-grandfather of 8. He is preceded in death by his first wife Ruth Strosnider (nee Meyers) and Rose Winter and a grandson, Dan Strosnider.
