Helen Jamroz

January 20, 1920 — November 21, 2015

Jamroz, Helen M. (nee Gaska) Baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at age 95. Beloved wife of 45 years to the late Joseph Jamroz; devoted daughter of the late Joseph & Julie Gaska. Loving mother to Cathie and husband Michael Nagle. Cherished grandma to Jen Nagle and fiancé Kenny G Dudley & Lauren Nagle. Survived by dear sisters Pauline Zagroba & Ann Szydlowski. Special Ciocio to Irene & Joe Gibala. Fond Aunt to many. Helen was born the 3rd of 5 children in Bartlesville, Ok, moved to St Louis as a small child and was part of the vibrant Polish enclave surrounding the Soulard area in the 40's & 50's. Helen worked at Krey Packing House during the war until 1957; she received a special Food For Freedom award from the War Food Administration for her work at Krey to feed the troops in World War II. Helen & Joe married in May 1952 and settled in South St Louis in 1957. Helen loved her family, was an impeccably organized & immaculate homemaker and was the best Polish cook this side of Warsaw. She was the perfect hostess, always ready to offer a high-ball and a fabulously cooked meal to guests. She lived in the same home on Alma Avenue for 57 years until moving to Naperville, Illinois to be near her daughter & husband in 2014. She was especially fond of her neighbors Darren, Lonnie & Anne. Helen had a long and loving marriage to Joe who passed away in 1997. She lovingly cared for him and fearlessly learned to drive in her 70's so she could tend to his needs. Helen was fiercely independent & never afraid to try or learn new things. She lived on her own in her own home until age 94, moved to Tabor Hills Assisted living where she continued an independent life making new friends, having breakfast daily with the "two Jim's", and speaking Polish to the cook there. Her nickname there was 'Helen of Troy'. Helen was a loving and very special Grandma to Jen & Lauren; they would love coming down from Chicago to see her several times a year. Her positive impact on their lives will live on. Daughter Cathie & her husband Mike were blessed to visit Helen at least weekly, getting to know her as a dear friend and understanding confidant. Everywhere she went, she had a positive and uplifting influence on everyone that came into contact with her. Everyone loved Helen. We will miss her tremendously but take comfort knowing she is with Jesus and reunited with her beloved Joe. November 27, 2015
