Gina Pona

Gina Kay Pona passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016. Gina was born on June 20, 1971, and was raised in South St. Louis County where she graduated Mehlville High School in 1990. She is survived by her parents Marilyn Mesi Pona and Pete Pona, Grandmother Katherine Cassell, and brothers Pete Pona, his wife Caryn Campbell; and Tony Pona, his wife, Nicki Manor Pona. She was a loving aunt to her nephews Dominic Pona, Anthony Pona, Parker Pona and Van Pona. Gina also leaves behind her beloved dog Giorgio and cat Tom; and her extended family and community of friends. Gina was a daughter, sister, student, aunt, gymnast, diver, runner, and kayaker. From a young age, she was a gifted athlete who loved the outdoors. While in high school, Gina won numerous awards in gymnastics, swimming, and cheerleading. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education Science from Webster University and her Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education from the University of Missouri St. Louis. Gina had a personal mission for helping children overcome their learning challenges. She loved her job as an Education Specialist at Clark School in the Webster Groves School District. She promoted a healthy mind, body, and spirit in everything she did: yoga, triathlon training and as a certified personal trainer for the YMCA of Greater Saint Louis. She also carried out deep love, kindness, and respect for all animals. Over the past decade, Gina was also a Coordinator of Youth Ministries at both St. Lucas U.C.C. in Sunset Hills and most recently at First Congregational U.C.C. in Webster Groves. Donations can be made to the Missouri Botanical Gardens, where Gina was a life-long member. Services: Visitation hours Friday, November 4th, 3pm to 9pm at John L.Ziegenhein & Sons, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd. Funeral on Saturday, November 5th, 10am from the funeral home. November 04, 2016
