Gertie Modena Vancil, née Breedlove, a cherished soul remembered for her boundless love and kindness, left this world to enter the pearly gates of Heaven on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2024, in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by her loving family.

Gertie was born in Deer, Arkansas on February 8th, 1937, to parents the late Tom and Laura Breedlove. A devoted wife to her late husband, Billie R. Vancil, she leaves behind her beloved children; daughters Deborrah Kemple, Judy Myers, Paula Wells, and beloved son, Timothy Vancil. As well as, five granddaughters and five grandsons; seven great-granddaughters, ten great-grandsons; and an impressive eleven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Fred Breedlove, and is reunited with her two sisters and four brothers preceding her. Gertie is also preceded in death by her daughters Sharon Coleman and Tammy Pappas, and granddaughter, Sabrina Coleman.

Gertie was a passionate gardener who found joy in a vibrant and fruitful garden. Her green thumb and love for nature were evident in the beautiful blooms that graced her garden. Beyond her green thumb, she was a talented cook, known for her delicious meals and warm hospitality. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and laughter, where family and friends gathered to create lasting memories around the table. Gertie loved playing cards, bingo, and looked forward to celebrating her birthdays at the casino. Gertie loved the holidays. Anything that involved family and food, she was sure to be there.

Gertie will be remembered as an amazing, strong, and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

In honoring her memory, friends and family are invited to celebrate her life during her visitation set to take place on January 4, 2025, at 3:00 PM, until her funeral service at 5:00 PM at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes South City Chapel, located at 7027 Gravois Ave, St. Louis, Missouri 63116.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Alzheimer's Association in Gertie's honor.
