Bollwerk, George Paul, Jr., fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Friday, October 7, 2011 at age 83. Beloved husband for 59 years of Virginia ("Missy") Bollwerk, who predeceased him in September 2011. Loving father of G. Paul (Helen) Bollwerk, III, Ann (Robert) Sielaty, James (Gilda) Bollwerk, Elaine (T. Michael) Murray and Mary Johnston. Dear grandfather of Elizabeth, Melissa, Stephanie, Eric, Benjamin, Alexander, Margaret, Joseph, Lauren and Nicholas. Dear step-grandfather of Nathan, Kelly Suzanne, David and Ana. Dear step-great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. George was the son of the late George P. Bollwerk, Sr. and Rose H. Bollwerk, and is survived by his sister, Doris (Norman) Niederstadt. Born in Richmond Heights, Missouri, he attended Resurrection Elementary School and South Side Catholic/St. Mary's High School in St. Louis and graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in May 1951, where he was a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps. George entered on active duty as a lieutenant with the United States Army Corps of Engineers in June 1951 and thereafter was stationed in West Germany. In May 1952, Missy Traveled to Germany and they were married in the Army chapel in Fulda. After his tour of duty, George was honorably discharged in May 1953 and the Bollwerks returned to St. Louis. During his subsequent career as a metallurgical engineer, George worked for American Zinc Company in Sauget, Illinois, and Dumas, Texas, Blackwell Zinc Company in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Big River Zinc Corporation in Sauget, Illinois. Upon the Bollwerks family's return to St. Louis from Oklahoma in 1974, they became members of the Assumption Parish, where George was active over the years as a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Perpetual Adoration Society. George and Missy particularly enjoyed traveling, and after George's retirement in 1991, they took many new horizons in their RV. During their 59 years of marriage, They visited 49 of the 50 states and traveled abroad to such countries as Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Argentina, Peru and Bolivia. Services: Funeral Tuesday, 9:30 AM from JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS (South County) 4830 Lemay Ferry Road to Assumption Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 AM, Interment, Assumption Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's honor may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Assumption Parish, 4725 Mattis Road, St. Louis, MO 63128.
