Gene M. Matlock Sr.

Gene M. Matlock Sr. Asleep in Jesus suddenly on Thursday June 27, 2024, at the age of 82. Preceded in death by and reunited with beloved wife Carolyn Arleen Matlock, nee Aumann, and dear siblings Max Matlock, Robert Matlock, Maxine Gilmore, and Virginia Matlock. Cherished father of Debbra Lynn (the late Kevin) Reither, nee Matlock, and Gene M. Matlock Jr.; treasured grandpa of Danny Reither, Brad Reither, Brian (Emily) Reither, Noah Matlock, and Cody Matlock; cherished great-grandpa to Aubrey and Colton Reither; dear uncle, great-uncle, and friend to everyone.

Gene was a devoted man, from his work ethic to each of his relationships. He worked for many years with the Railroad, until he retired and began his own business, Gene's Lawn Service, which he proudly owned and operated. Aside from his work, Gene is mainly remembered for his love and devotion for his family and friends-- of which he had many, as Gene never met a stranger. In his free time, Gene loved to spend his free time with his buddies at the VFW Post# 4223

Gene will continue to be remembered as a Great Man, in every sense of the title, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the blessing of knowing him during his long and accomplished life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Stray Rescue of St. Louis in honor of Gene.

Gene's visitation will be held on Friday July 5, 2024, at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South City Chapel, 7027 Gravois Ave. St. Louis, MO 63116, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. His funeral will be held the following morning, July 6, at 10:30 a.m., also at the funeral home. Interment following the funeral service in Lakewood Park Cemetery, alongside his beloved wife, Carolyn.
