Fern Lorraine (nee Peterson) Browne was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She passed away after a long battle with dementia on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the age of 88 years. Fern was born on April 1, 1935, in Overland, MO to Carl and Edith (nee Moise) Peterson. After high school Fern attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College where she met her husband, Pete Browne. Fern and Pete were married January 7, 1956, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage. After they were married, Fern was crowned Miss Overland in her hometown. Together they were blessed with 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Fern loved to travel, she and Pete made several trips with family and friends to places like Hawaii, the Bahamas and Las Vegas. But mostly she enjoyed being with her family. Her favorite time was when everyone was together, anywhere. Like holidays around the dining room table enjoying a meal and games. She loved to play board games and was the family Scrabble champion.
Fern is survived by her husband R.E. “Pete” Browne; 5 children and spouses Teri Browne, Buddy and Karen Browne, Bryan and Paula Browne, Sue and Jerry Ellis, Jeffrey Browne and Maggie Fishbeck; 10 grandchildren and spouses Bryan and Kim Browne, Aaron and Meg Browne, Amanda Dubach, Brittney and Darren Jordan, Sydney and Michael Thornhill, Ben Browne, Max Browne, Michael Browne, Maria Comerford and Cassidy Ellis; 8 great-grandchildren Emmerson Browne, Lincoln Browne, Jackson Browne, Peterson Browne, Augustus Browne, Bowen Browne, Anthony Browne and Allie Thornhill. Nieces, nephews cousins and friends. Fern is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Edith Peterson; four siblings Carl Peterson Jr., Shirley Delfert, Bill Peterson, and Don Peterson; and granddaughter Monika Browne.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 9:30 am until funeral services at 11:15 am at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Homes, 7027 Gravois Ave, St. Louis, MO 63116. Interment immediately following services at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, Lemay MO 63125. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Shriners Hospital.
