Emil Tomek Sr.

Emil Peter Tomek, Sr., 84, died peacefully in his sleep Thursday, Oct 12, 2017 at his home following a brief illness. Emil was surrounded by family throughout the last four months of his life spent in hospice care. He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Maureen (O'Rourke) Tomek; his sons, Pete (Linda) Tomek, David Tomek, Tony Tomek; daughters, Kim (Ray) Bush, Beth (Kevin) Creahan; his sister, Mary Ann Schuler; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A devout Catholic and army veteran of the Korean War, Emil was a hard-working and quiet man with a witty sense of humor. He enjoyed reading, classical music, bird watching, fishing, art, woodworking and fixing stuff. He was a man of many skills and tools. Most of all, Emil enjoyed children and spending time with his grandchildren who gave him the most joy out of life. Words cannot express the family's appreciation for the loving care and compassion that St. Anthony's Hospice nurses Jenny and Dawn provided through out Emil's journey as he transitioned to be with dearly departed friends, family members and his God in Heaven. Memorial gathering will be Saturday October 21, 2017 from 1:00pm until service 4:00pm at John L. Ziegenhein South County Chapel. A memorial prayer service will be held at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emil's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital October 21, 2017
