Ella Mae Lunsford

March 12, 1934 — January 12, 2025

St. Louis

Ella Mae Lunsford, a beloved mother, grandmother, and faithful friend, went home to be with Jesus on January 12, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on March 12, 1934, in Salem, Missouri, she touched many lives with her unwavering love, kind spirit, and zest for life.

Ella cherished her family above all, creating countless memories with them, particularly the joyful adventures to Branson, Missouri. She embraced every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in her daughter, Brenda (Fred) Voellinger; son, Michael (Patty) Lunsford; grandchildren, Matt (Debbie) Williams, Joe (Jeanne) Voellinger, Amy (Mike) Hooker, Luke (Sara)  Lunsford; and great-grandchildren, Christian (Savannah) and Colter Lunsford, along with many beloved step-grandchildren. She also held a special place in her heart for her nephew, Larry (Brenda) Moses. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Pastor Johnny Lunsford; treasured daughter Linda (surviving Rick) Jones; dear sisters Ava (the late Charles) Moses and Ethyl Gibbs; and cherished niece Marsha Moses. Ella's nurturing spirit extended to all, offering love and comfort to those who entered her life.

Born and raised in a time where family values were paramount, Ella was a faithful Pastor's wife, supporting her husband, Pastor Johnny Lunsford, who has since passed. She carried with her the teachings of faith and compassion that she instilled in her family. Her warm presence will be profoundly missed.

Ella had a variety of interests that brought her joy. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and found delight in shopping at yard sales and thrift stores, where she often discovered hidden treasures. Her love for cooking was evident in the pride she took in preparing meals for her family, especially during cherished Sunday dinners. Additionally, she enjoyed listening to Elvis hymns and indulging in Hallmark Christmas movies, surrounding herself in the warmth of these simple pleasures.

Her treasured companion, a cat named "Socks," provided her with much joy and comfort, proving that love can often come in furry forms. Ella's legacy of kindness and passion for life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ella’s remarkable life at her funeral service on January 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Homes - South County Chapel in St. Louis. Visitation will precede the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Ella will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery later that day, where her memory will forever be honored.
