Dorothy Theising

August 11, 1921 — December 8, 2017

Dorothy Agatha Theising died Friday, December 8, 2017, at age 96. She was born August 11, 1921, in St. Louis-- a city she deeply loved. Dot worked for the City of St. Louis as a secretary for many years, retiring about 1986. She worked for different divisions over the years, including the Board of Public Service and St. Louis City Hospital until it closed. She enjoyed working retail jobs in the area during her retirement. She was a longtime resident of Hereford Avenue, and later resided at the Chariton Apartments at St. Anthony of Padua and the Ollie Langhorst apartments on Arsenal. Her last 8 years were spent at the St. Sophia nursing home in Florissant, where she received care for Alzheimer's disease. She had a beautiful voice and loved piano bar. She sang at many South St. Louis places. She composed a song called "St. Louis, I Love You," which was an oft-requested song at piano bar performances. She lived a single, independent life that was full of joy and love for her family and friends. She was always cheerful. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Catherine Theising, and her brother, Henry Jr. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Montgomery of Fairfield OH, seven nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces/nephews and great-grand nieces/nephews. She was our beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was cared for lovingly by her family, especially Susan Eye, John Theising, and Tim Montgomery(recently departed). Her family is grateful for the loving care provided by the staff at St. Sophia's. Interment at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
