Doris June Vaclavek, 91, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on December 9, 2019. Born February 3, 1928, to Glen and Edith Wright of Marshall, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Paul Vaclavek. She was also preceded in death by her parents and seven of her eight siblings.
Doris was born on a farm near Marshall, Illinois and was the second of nine children. She helped raise her siblings. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1946 and took a job with A&P Grocery in their business office in Terre Haute, Indiana. Her job ultimately took her to St. Louis where in 1961 she went on a blind date with Albert of St. Louis. The two dated for about a year and were married May 26, 1962. They raised their family in South St. Louis County. She was a stay at home mom and was very involved in the lives of her children as a room mother, a scout leader and a fan at every one of their sporting events. Doris was a devout Christian and faithful member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church. Albert passed away on April 9, 1982, leaving her to raise their three children. Doris ensured each of her children received a college education. As her children married and had families of their own, she was always there to spend time with her grandchildren and of course their family pets. Doris remained in her home in South St. Louis County until the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease required her to move to Sunrise of Webster Groves where she lived for nearly seven years.
Doris is survived by her sister Virginia Morgan of Terre Haute, Indiana, son John P. Vaclavek, wife Sheryl and daughter Anna of Columbia, Missouri, Ruth A. Bilbrey, husband Steve and daughter Kayla of Fenton, Missouri and Carol L. Biernbaum, husband Mark, daughter Brooke and son Luke of Creve Coeur, Missouri.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Lucas Lutheran Church, 7100 Morganford Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63116 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
