Meier, Donald W., 88, passed away on Tuesday August 31, 2021, at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis after years of battling multiple heath issues.
Don was born on September 22, 1932, in St. Louis, the son of the late Marie (Hachmann) and Henry Meier and brother to the late Robert Meier. Don survived Polio while growing up in the Grove area of St. Louis and graduated from Roosevelt High School. On June 19, 1954 he was united in marriage to Pauline Kneiser. They were married for 63 years until Pauline’s death in 2017. He worked at Stupp Bros. Bridge and Iron Co. for over 40 years before retiring in 1996. Don enjoyed “helping” in any way he could. Notable volunteering activities included working at his church, St. Johns United Church of Christ, volunteering as a Boy Scout leader, and serving as President of the Trautwein Elementary School PTA.. Don enjoyed traveling and watching the Cardinals, but nothing gave him more pleasure than watching his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
Don is survived by his two children, Lynne Dearmont of St. Louis, and Bryan (Joyce) Meier of Minneapolis, MN; Five grandchildren, Eric (Rachel), Travis (Christine) Dearmont, Erin (Josh Bartels), Emily, and Ethan Meier (Brandi Olson); and three great-grandchildren, Sophia Dearmont, Noah Dearmont, Emma Dearmont and soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Piper Meier. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, and his parents.
Don will be missed by many. Donations may be made to St. John’s UCC, 11333 St. John’s Church Road, St. Louis, MO 63123. Visitation at Church at 9 am until service at 10 am Thursday September 2, 2021
