David (Dave) Joseph Storey, 81, passed away on September 3, 2024, at home, after a brief illness. A native of St. Louis, he was born in Carondelet on April 17, 1943, the fourth child of Omar and Mildred Storey. His brothers Michael, Joseph, and John all preceded him in death. He attended Sts. Mary and Joseph Grade School, Grover Cleveland High School (Class of 1961), and earned an associates degree in electronics from David S. Rankin Trade School in 1963.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1963 and was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1969, after serving in the 548th Strategic Missile Squadron Power Plant Maintenance at Forbes Air Force Base and the 71st Tactical Missile Squadron Launch at Bitburg, AFB, in Germany.
Dave’s love of electronics led to a lifelong career working in the rent to own industry as a service technician and manager in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Plainfield, Indiana. He retired in 2007 and returned home to St. Louis. Dave was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight and Financial Secretary of Bishop Rosati Council (St. Louis) and Sts. Francis- Eugene Council in Oklahoma City. His love of amateur radio began in high school earning his first license at age 14. He kept his original call sign K0TYC granted in 1957 even as he earned the highest license an operator can receive.
Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharlene (Sherry) and four children: Dr. Theresa Storey Hefner-Babb (Ralph) of Beaumont, Texas, Katherine Storey Clear (Michael) of Mustang, Oklahoma, Joseph Storey (Lisa) of Frisco, Texas, and Laurence Storey (Amanda) of Norman, Oklahoma. Nine grandchildren: Jacob and Kaitlyn Storey, David (Hannah) Clear, Cara (Kevin) Nguyen Lucresio, and Lucille Clear, John and Matthew Hefner-Babb, and Deborah Storey. His first great grandchild, Alice Nguyen, is anticipated to arrive in early November. David is also survived by his nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and brother and sister in law, Jim and Shelley Lebbing.
He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his love of history, books, and film and most of all his love of family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS SOUTH COUNTY, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, (63129). Mass will be on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 10:00 am St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, 4900 Ringer Road, (63129). Interment following Mass at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
