David Bellew

David John Bellew passed away October 5 at the age of 51 at the deGreef Hospice House in St. Louis, County. David resided in Troy for the last 16 years. David was born with Down Syndrome as the last of nine children to the late Frank and Doloris Bellew in November of 1961. He is survived by his eight brothers and sisters and their spouses: Doloris (Thomas) Skalas, Frank E. (Flora), Patrick (Sharon), Thomas (Judith) Bellew, Dolly (Pierre) Willems, Dotty (Daniel) Crinnion, Daniel (Kathleen) Bellew, and Kathleen (Terry) Bopp. David attended the Special School District of St Louis County, graduating from the trainable track in 1981. David had a special gift for remembering birth dates and could tell you your full birth date faster than you could say it yourself. Davis was fascinated by old cars and could tell you the year, make and model of any car he came across. David worked for almost five years at BCI (Boone Center, Inc.), a sheltered workshop, packaging household goods for sale. He was a self-proclaimed hard working, tax paying man. David also participated in Special Olympics for eleven years, loving the camaraderie and self esteem that came with practicing and getting better at track and field, golf, soccer, basketball and softball. Thanks to Special Olympics, David made many new friends and was always encouraging others to do their very best. October 7, 2013
