Daniel "Dan" Thomas Speaks Sr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 10, 2024, at the age of 61, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Janis (nee Walker); devoted father of Daniel Jr. (Megan), Matthew (Janel), and Timothy; blessed pawpaw of Phoebe, Luke, and Gianna; cherished son of Carmen (the late Jim) Roeder; preceded in death by father William "Bill" Speaks; treasured brother of William “Chuck” (Trish) Speaks; dear son-in-law of Clarence Walker; dear brother-in-law to George (Linda), Tom (Layne), and the late Jim Walker (surviving Amy); and dear uncle to nine nieces and nephews. Dan is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends.
Dan was born in Fort Leonard Wood and raised in Webster Groves, Missouri. He resided in St. Louis, Missouri for 14 years before moving to Kansas City, Missouri 22 years ago. A veteran of the United States Army, Dan is returning to St. Louis to be laid to rest in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Veterans Community Project in honor of Dan.
Dan’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons South City Chapel, 7027 Gravois Ave. St. Louis, MO 63116, from 9:00 a.m. until funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery following the funeral.
