Constantino Arvanitakis

Arvanitakis, Constantino ‘Gus' Monday, August 26, 2013. Beloved husband of Maria Arvanitakis (nee Karagiannis). Dearest father of Jerry & Major Adonis Arvanitakis, USAF; dear father-in-law of Corie Arvanitakis (nee Sandvig); dear grandfather of Elias & Zoe Arvanitakis. Preceded in death by his father Nikolas Arvanitakis, mother Andonia Arvanitakis, brother Dionysus, and In-laws Constantino and Efthimia Karagiannis. Gus was born July 19th, 1945, in the town of Romidi, on the island of Zakinthos, Greece. He served in the Hellenic Army as a Hellenic Scout. Helping to curb communist forces from infiltrating Greece, he was honorably discharged from the service in 1967. Eager to live life to its fullest, he immigrated to the United States where he immediately adopted his new found country as his one "true" home. Gus would meet and marry the love of his life, a young Greek girl named Maria. As fate would have it, they discovered after a year of marriage, that his wife's village was one of those he protected during his time in the Hellenic Army, and her uncle had performed an emergency appendectomy saving his life. A proud American, Gus lived the American dream as the sole proprietor of his own business, Constantine's restaurant in South County (1990-2005). An avid hunter and fisherman, he could be found on any given Sunday on the Lake, in the woods, or watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, "America's Team." A man of humble faith, Gus was proud of his life in America, his two sons, and most of all, his grandchildren; they will forever be his legacy. Always willing to help a relative, a neighbor, or even a stranger stuck on the Lake without gas, he treated everyone he knew as a friend (Philoxenia). He will forever be missed and respected by all those who knew him. Services: Visitation Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., PrayerService/Trisaghion 7 p.m., at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS South County, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd. Family and friends will meet Thursday, 9:45 a.m., at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 4967 Forest Park Ave., for 10 a.m. funeral service. Interment St. Matthew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church or Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. August 28, 2013
