Schmidt, Jr., Chief Joseph P., Baptized into the hope of Christ's Resurrection on Friday, September 12, 2014; beloved husband of Teresa M. Schmidt (nee George); dear father of Katherine (Michael) Calvo, Joseph, III (Rachel Detteff), Amanda and Abigail Schmidt; dear grandfather of Josie and Sofia; dear son of Jean H. Cope and the late Joseph P. Schmidt, Sr.; dear brother of Kelly Schmidt; dear son-in-law of Robert and Dorothy George; dear brother-in-law of Craig (Kevin Brown) George; dear uncle of Nikolas and Alexander Brown; our dear nephew, cousin and friend. Chief Schmidt proudly served in United States Marine Corps, served 30 years with the Mehlville Fire Protection District where he was Deputy Chief, was the Chief of the West Overland Fire Protection District, a member of Missouri Task Force 1 and assisted during 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, St. Louis Area Strike Team 3, Missouri Region C Incident Management Team and a member of the Missouri Mules. Services: Funeral Wednesday 9:15 am from JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS (South County) 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd (63129) to Queen of All Saints Catholic Church 6603 Christopher Rd. (63129) for 10:00 am Mass. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. If desired memorials may be made to the St. Louis County Fire Academy, 1266 Sutter Ave. (63133). VISITATION TUESDAY 3-9 PM. September 16, 2014
