Our Dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.
Char was known for her cooking and baking, especially fried chicken, pork chops, shrimp mousse and delicious desserts. Her collection of cookbooks topped 250 and she enjoyed testing many recipes on family and friends. One time she tricked George and Dave by putting cotton balls in her lemon pie ... she got a big kick out of that prank.
Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she always made it special for us and others. She enjoyed trying new restaurants, going to church picnics and fundraisers, playing poker, penny slots, watching wrestling on TV and Animal Planet was her favorite channel. Being an animal lover, she would feed the birds and squirrels daily and watch them from her patio, occasionally seeing a deer or two. She and her best friend, Pat A, would talk on the telephone for hours and still have plenty to say the next day.
Being an only child, Char wanted a big family ... and she got one! She had 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. When she married Paul, she was so happy to be part of his large family including 5 sisters and 1 brother and eventually 34 nieces and nephews.
Her parents loved to travel and Char went on frequent road trips visiting many states. She kept journals of her adventures and shared them with us. She had an extensive collection of cups and saucers from her travels, family and friends. Char loved music and played many polkas on her accordion and piano.
In the last few months of her life, she reminisced about her parents and the 59 happy years she and dad had together. She told us stories about the fun times we had at our clubhouse on the Meramec River and many other wonderful memories.
Our family thanks Alternative Hospice and the fantastic nurses and staff who made mom's transition so peaceful. They were always there when we had questions and needed them.
Mom was a kind and generous person and she taught us to be that way. She will be warmly remembered for many things, but mostly for how much she loved all of us.
