Wones, Charles/Charlie Martin (1939-2017) Charles Martin Wones (78) died Friday, February 17th, while tending the yard that he enjoyed in St. Louis County, Missouri. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Rutherford) Wones, their daughter, Cynthia, and five grown grandchildren - grandsons Marcus and wife, Shalae, Caleb and wife, Jenna, Steffen, Justus, and Jorden - as well as beloved nieces and nephews. Charles was born the youngest of the four children to Joseph John Wones and Marie Catherine (Eisele) Wones. He met his future wife, Betty, when he attended Harris Teachers' College (now Harris-Stowe State University), where she also attended. They attended church regularly as they brought up their daughter. They additionally volunteered to lead a church teen youth group when their daughter was not yet a teen. Having earned both bachelor's and master[s degrees, plus thirty, in education, our beloved Charlie was an artist and blessed many lives as an outstanding art teacher. Licensed in real estate, he helped many people find homes of their dreams. He delighted in raising flowers, plants, and birds. In younger years, family leisure time often involved fishing and swimming. Of late, his favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. Charles Wones lived almost his whole life in the St. Louis area and taught for 42 years in the St. Louis Public School System. His time residing outside of St. Louis was when he served in the United States Air Force. Funeral Services: From John L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Homes, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road (63129), 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque for 10:00 a.m. Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation: Monday, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donating to St. Jude and Salvation Army.
