Charles Branson

Branson, Charles E. age 85, on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Beloved husband of Sally Jane Branson (nee Roach); father of Paul (Virginia) Branson, Carla Patton, Mark T. and David P. Branson, Dr. Tracey L. (Catherine) Conrad and Jeffrey A. Branson; dear grandfather and great-grandfather; dear brother-in-law of Mary Ann (nee Roach) and her husband, Truman Johnston, of Pinellas Park, FL; dear brother of the late Frances and Azalee Branson. Charles was born in Russell, KY to Charles E. and Bertha Ann Branson (nee Simon). He lived in Michigan, moving to southern Missouri, then to St. Louis, where he resided until his death. After graduating from Blewett High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, sending him to England and Scotland for further training and later crossing the English Channel in the Normandy Invasion. Advancing through France, Belgium/Ardennes and Germany/Rhineland, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, predominately, with the 87th Division (7th Army). Charles was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Rifle Sharp-Shooter Badge, Army of Occupation Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, WW II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Bars, Missouri WW II Award for Patriotic Service and the French Jubilee of Liberty Medal. After receiving a scholarship to study for a year at the University of Geneva, Charles returned home. After graduating from Washington University School of Architecture in 1951, he pursued a life long career as a commercial architect, which took him to all fifty states as well as international work in Cuba, Jamaica, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. A long time resident of west St. Louis County, he became very active in all efforts to incorporate the City of Wildwood, serving on the Town Center and Master Plan Advisory Board, the Architectural Review Board (Co-Chair) and the Historic Preservation Committee. He was a member A. I. A. Emeritus-St. Louis Chapter, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge (V.B.O.B.), and Wildwood Historical Society. Services: Family and friends will gather on Wed. Jan. 19, at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS (South County) Funeral Home, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd. (63129) from 12:15 to 12:45 pm then to J. B. National Cemetery for interment services with full military honors at 1:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm Wed. at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS (South County) Funeral Home.
